Adding Urban Forest
Did you know that San Fransisco has 100,000 street trees? Forty percent of these trees have been planted by Friends of the Urban Forest, but the city still has more than 100,000 empty sidewalk spaces where trees could be planted! Not only do trees beautify our landscape, but they also provide important environmental services – they absorb air pollutants and rainwater, and provide shade on hot, sunny days.
Viewer Tip: Friends of the Urban Forest holds regular tree plantings and garden workshops around San Francisco, and nice, warm weather offers the perfect opportunity to help with a local tree-planting. Find out how you can help fill empty sidewalk spaces: www.fuf.net/calendar_news/index.html.
Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
