Boat Blues

As the boating capitol of the nation, over 130,000 Washingtonians will potentially hit the Puget Sound this summer.  Motor boats on the Sound already produce about 85,000 pounds of smog-forming pollutants each summer day.

Viewer Tip:  The US EPA estimates that a two-cycle outboard motor running for one hour emits the same amount of pollutants as a 1990-year-model vehicle driven for 100 miles!  You can help to cut down on emissions by keeping your boat properly tuned and maintained.  If you want to try zero-emissions water activities, consider sailing, canoeing, and kayaking.
