Care for the Coast
How important are Louisiana’s coasts? Jobs related to the coast, including fishing, oyster production, and oil and gas production, account for over 55,000 jobs and billions of dollars in revenue for the state! One of the major sources of waterway pollution is soil carried away during rainstorms – soil can smother fish habitat, prevent plant growth, and cloud the water.
Viewer Tip: You can help protect Louisiana’s valuable coastal waters at home. Hold your soil in place – reseed bare spots in your lawn, and add mulch around plant beds and other bare areas to prevent soil loss. If you’re planning a construction project, be sure to cover any dirt piles or bare areas with a tarp to keep materials in place.
Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
