Cold and Age

Did you know that the ability to feel changes in temperature decreases with ageBecause they have a slower metabolism and often engage in less physical activity than younger adults, older people are particularly susceptible to cold temperatures and associated health problems.  Infants under one year old are also extremely susceptible to cold temperatures, as they lose body heat more easily than adults, and cannot warm themselves adequately through shivering.

Viewer Tip: Make sure that you stay safe during cold winter weather.  You may want to place an easy-to-read thermometer in your home to monitor temperature, and make sure that you and your family members are dressed warmly.  If you have elderly friends and neighbors, check on them to make sure that their homes are adequately heated.
