Sprinkler Smarts
April – considered the last month of Florida’s dry season – is a time when water conservation is particularly important. Rising temperatures and often low humidity can stress South Florida’s water supply. Up to 70 percent of home water use goes to outdoor use, but with a few adjustments, you can conserve water and save money.
Viewer Tip: Make sure you are watering sensibly in your yard! Installing a rain sensor for your sprinkler system can prevent sprinklers from turning on when adequate rain has fallen, and adjusting sprinklers that are watering sidewalks, driveways, or other unnecessary areas can prevent wasting water. Your local home improvement store, University Cooperative Extension, or plumbing store can help you with your irrigation questions.
