Don’t Dry Up This Summer
Did you know that up to 50 percent of the water you sprinkle on your lawn and garden could be wasted from evaporation and runoff? July and August are peak water use months because so many people water outdoors.
Viewer Tip: Remember that if you water wisely, you can save a lot of blue while keeping your yard green.
- Water your lawn or garden during the morning or evening hours, as opposed to midday, to reduce evaporation.
- Learn plants’ water needs and water different types appropriately.
- Use mulch around trees and plants to help reduce evaporation and control water-stealing weeds.
- Contact a WaterSense irrigation partner, if you have an irrigation system, to conduct a water-efficiency audit. Visit www.epa.gov/watersense/services/landscape_irrigation.html to learn more about landscape irrigation.
