Don’t Get Hosed
Did you know that an average garden hose flows at at a rate of 10 to 16 gallons per minute? A broken sprinkler head wastes approximately 300 gallons of water per hour!
Viewer Tip: With less than one percent of freshwater available for human use, water conservation is extremely important. Help reduce your outdoor water consumption with these tips:
- Don’t let the hose run while washing your car. Use a bucket with soap and water or take your car to a professional car wash that recycles water.
- Use shut-off nozzles on outdoor hoses that can be adjusted to a fine spray so water flows only as needed.
- Always turn water off at the spigot instead of at the nozzle to avoid leaks.
- Check regularly for broken or leaking sprinklers and hose nozzles. Repair or replace them promptly to avoid wasting water.
