Paul Gross
Paul Gross is a meteorologist and executive producer of weather at WDIV-TV in Detroit. He is also chairman of the American Meteorological Society’s Committee on the Station Scientist and a former chairman of the AMS Board of Broadcast Meteorology. Here’s what he has to say about the Station Scientist initiative.
What does ‘Station Scientist’ mean to you? What are some of the science stories you have covered?
Where do you go for trusted science information?
In the bigger picture, what is the goal of the AMS Committee on the Station Scientist?
What are some of the obstacles that keep broadcast meteorologists from taking on that role? What advice would you give to someone who would like to take on that role, but hasn’t yet “jumped in?”
How do you fit Earth Gauge or other environmental and climate stories into the weathercast or newscast?
