Water and Energy Conservation

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the average American family of four uses 400 gallons of water per day!  Water conservation can start right at home.  Diverting less water for municipal uses helps to preserve stream flow and maintain healthy aquatic environments.

Viewer Tip: Give these easy water conservation tips a try:

  • Place a sand or pebble filled plastic bottle in your toilet tank.  Put an inch or two of sand in the bottom of the plastic bottle and then fill with water.  Place the bottle in the tank, away from operating mechanisms.
  • Insulate your pipes with pre-slit foam pipe insulation.  You’ll get hot water faster and avoiding wasting water while it heats up.
  • Rinse your razor in the sink.  Fill the sink with a few inches of warm water instead of using running water.
