Have you ever heard of a broadcast meteorologist? This is the scientist on your local TV or radio news station who gives you the weather report. Our program, called Earth Gauge, helps broadcast meteorologists talk about the environment and how it’s connected to weather. There are many ways weather and the environment are connected. Some examples are:

• Birds migrating south before winter’s cold temperatures begin;
• Rainwater washing litter from the street to your local river, causing pollution;
• Air pollution affecting the health of kids with asthma;
• Kids and their families staying safe from severe weather, like tornadoes and hurricanes.
